Senior Network Engineer - Pacific Region – to join our team supporting a government customer.
Required QualificationsThe Senior Network Engineer for the Pacific region must have a mastery of normal networking protocols and technologies, such as TCP/IP, XDM, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, RSTP, VRRP, Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND), EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, Point to Point Protocol (PPP), High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC), V.35, RS-449 and a clear understanding of the 802.1d, 802.1q, 802.1w, 802.3, 802.5, 802.10, 802.11, 802.3u, 803.2, and 802.3z communications and Internet standards.
A clear understanding and direct experience with synchronous and asynchronous communications, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI, ATM, and other communications media used by the DoD and DHA is required. Experience with Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), cable testers, network sniffers and EIA/TIA cable standards and specifications is required. Mastery level experience in routed, switched and shared LAN environments that operate systems including Microsoft OS, Windows Active Directory, UNIX and OpenVMS, and the use of routers, switches, terminal servers, and various LAN/WAN connectivity is required.
& Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer sciences, Engineering, technical degree or related discipline, and five (5) years of directly related experience; or completion of a certified Technical or Vocational School and 10 years of directly related experience gained through progressively higher levels of complexity
- DOD 8570 IAM III Certified Information Systems Security Professional CISSP
- Cisco Certified Network Professional CCNP
- Experience with DoD Health Care Information Systems is required.
- Experience and skills include a range of assignments directly related to the proposed area of responsibility. Expertise in Windows networks, Cisco Systems, and Orion Solar Winds.
- Experience with Zero Trust Architectures and Methodologies is desired.
The Senior Network Engineer for the Pacific region supports the medical mission of the DoD and ensures that highly complex and technical requirements related to the infrastructure are addressed. Responsibilities include identifying and resolving large LAN/WLAN/WAN problems, researching network-level issues using management tools, and providing high-level installation, configuration, documentation, management and troubleshooting of LAN/WLAN/WAN equipment for all DHA networked facilities within the Pacific Region.
Serve as regional point of contact for network issues, configuration management, communications interconnection, addressing, and multi-protocol routing and network management. Advise government staff, agencies and contractor representatives on LAN/WLAN/WAN design, implementation, deployment and management to ensure adequate support of the MHS mission and optimal performance. Lead/coordinate with Network Specialists and other organizations to resolve LAN/WLAN/WAN issues. Resolve technical issues related to network and routing protocols across OSI layers using diagnostics and tools such as Orion Solar Winds, ARMIS, and Ansible.
Understand Management Information Blocks (MIB) and MRTG to measure and plan performance and downtime. Maintain LAN/WLAN/WAN security and establish/configure network firewalls, VPN devices and IDSs. Provide written recommendations to field personnel and document changes via tickets or standards, coordinating with the NetMOD Network Standards Team. Study vendor products to determine components and configurations that meet DoD and MTF requirements in the Pacific region.
Establish and implement LAN/WLAN/WAN procedures and standards to ensure compliance with DoD, DHA, and DHA Pacific Regional Command objectives and policies. Communicate with key customers on the status of network support requests. Evaluate and resolve complex technical issues across OSI layers and contribute to policy development and standardization for LAN/WLAN/WAN operations. Lead or participate in other projects as needed.
