As a technical writer within our fast‑paced, high‑production environment, you will develop new and maintain existing content and documentation for Landis+Gyr products, including user guides, installation manuals, quick‑start guides, release notes, and online content.
Responsibilities- Work closely with software and hardware development engineers to produce and maintain complete, accurate technical documentation.
- Meet deadlines in a fast‑paced, detail‑oriented environment.
- Create urgent alert and bulletin documentation as needed for timely release and publication to address emergent problems.
- Produce illustrations and graphics (vector and raster) for technical documentation.
- Obtain scope, content, and schedule for desired end products and develop plans and milestones to achieve success.
- Operate and evaluate software and hardware during the documentation process from a customer standpoint to identify bugs, inconsistencies and problems that need addressing before final system release.
- Work with engineers, programmers and product managers to improve software and hardware functionality and usability.
- Design and produce HTML/XML‑based help systems for software.
- Create presentations in alternative formats such as computer‑based interactive training, video training and web‑delivered documentation.
- Design and develop templates for technical documents.
- Edit manuals and other technical documentation produced by other writers.
- Maintain flexibility and adaptability to work on other writers’ projects to help meet deadlines.
- Compile monthly metrics detailing departmental performance.
- Manage documentation projects for large, high‑profile customers (complex project management skills required).
- Handle departmental operations such as off‑site printing of released documentation, engineering change orders and scheduling of releases.
- Provide technical direction, oversee, help and guide less experienced or junior writers.
- Ensure a smooth transition of departing writers’ projects and workflows to a replacement writer.
- Three or more years (minimum) of experience writing technical publications.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications, English, Education, Electrical or Electronic Engineering/Technology or a related field.
- Expert written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe Structured Frame Maker, Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop and Robo Help.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for PC platforms.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Digital photography experience.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex technology in a user‑friendly manner.
- Positive professional attitude and readiness to work.
- Familiarity with applicable standards and guidelines.
- Availability to travel occasionally.
- Project management skills.
Must have a bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications, English, Education, Electrical or Electronic Engineering/Technology or related field.
