Description
The University of Hawai'i at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law seeks to hire a tenured or tenure-track whose primary teaching and scholarship interests are in business law (including transactional law). The Law School has a unique opportunity to strengthen and expand its business law curriculum to serve students, the profession, and communities in Hawai'i with this hire. The successful candidate will help anchor the law school's business curriculum by teaching Business Associations and, as appropriate, additional courses in business law (including transactional law), which meet the needs of our students and community.
Rank and salary commensurate with experience.
The Law School is located in Manoa on the flagship campus of the University of Hawai'i system. Successful candidates would also be expected to contribute to and support the Law School's innovative online Juris Doctor (JD) program.
Duties and Responsibilities for Assistant Professor (F3):
- Maintain a professional level of performance and productivity in the field of business law.
- Teach courses in business law and related subjects.
- Build and maintain expertise in business law.
- Work independently and with colleagues to select, develop, and revise curricular materials, instructional techniques, and assessment strategies for business law courses.
- Conduct research and publish scholarship in law journals, books, or their equivalent in the field of business law.
- Contribute to development activities in the law, the law school, and University.
- Provide service and leadership to the law school, University, and community.
- Engage in professional and self-development activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Same as Assistant Professor (F3) with the additional duties and responsibilities below:
- Perform consistently at a highly effective professional and productive level in the field of business law.
- Maintain expertise in business law.
- Conduct research and publish scholarship in law journals, books, or their equivalent in the field of business law.
- Provide individual leadership to colleagues in the legal field, law school, or University.
- Work with colleagues in other disciplines to facilitate student learning.
- Initiate, coordinate, and participate in discipline-related projects at the campus or system level to include significant program or curricular modification.
- Provide significant service to the law school and community outside of the area of primary responsibilities and sustain involvement in professional and self-development activities.
- Conduct program review and other assessment and planning activities for the campus.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
A Juris Doctor degree or equivalent terminal degree from a college or university of recognized standing, and a demonstrated ability and/or experience in teaching Business Associations or other business law (including transactional law) subjects in a JD or law-related program or demonstrated experience in law practice, legal scholarship, and public service. Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
Minimum Qualifications for Associate Professor (F4):
Same as Assistant Professor (F3) with the additional

A minimum of four (4) years of service as an Assistant Professor. Demonstrated experience in teaching Business Associations or other business law (including transactional law) subjects in a JD or law-related program, producing legal scholarship, and/or public service.
