SalaryLegal Assistant II: $4,590 per month (SR-18, Step
D)
Legal Assistant III: $4,961 to $6,043 per month (SR-20, Step D to I)
Note:
The starting monthly salary for Step D is the minimum rate of pay. Hiring rates for Steps D to I will be based on funds availability, applicant qualifications, and other relevant factors.
Performs paralegal work in support of attorneys; provides preliminary legal consultation to departmental personnel; establishes evidence and develops cases; performs legal research; prepares drafts, outlines, or summaries of legal subjects, laws, statutes, briefs and other legal documents; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Level IIEntry‑level Legal Assistant; fully competent in basic paralegal functions; requires on‑the‑job orientation and development of working relationships with court personnel, State line departmental personnel, attorneys, legal clerical staff, and others.
Level IIIProvides the full range of paralegal services; independently provides preliminary legal consultation, establishes evidence, develops cases, performs legal research, prepares drafts, outlines or summaries of legal subjects, laws, statutes, briefs, and related duties; may include training new legal assistant employees.
Minimum Qualification Requirements- Legal Authorization to Work
:
Citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. - General Experience
:
Four years of paralegal work experience demonstrating knowledge of interviewing techniques, rules of evidence, the legal system and procedures, legal research methods and sources of legal information, understanding and explaining legal processes and procedures, evaluating and analyzing facts and legal issues, preparing legal reports, documents, and correspondence, speaking clearly, and following oral and written instructions. - Specialized Experience (Level III) – Six (6) months of Government paralegal work experience demonstrating knowledge of government paralegal functions, ability to provide preliminary legal consultation services to government personnel, establish evidence and develop the government’s position in legal cases, perform legal research, and prepare drafts, outlines or summaries of legal subjects, laws, statutes, briefs and other documents.
- Note:
Experience as a legal stenographer or legal secretary involving only checking, filing, and processing of legal forms and documents is not considered qualifying. - Substitutions allowed as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements.
