Operations Assistant

Position Summary:

Assists supervisor and/or assistant supervisor in the implementation of daily objectives and effectively communicating expectations to associates in order to achieve departmental goals.

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Train and develop hourly staff in assigned area
  • Operate as a back-up to assistant supervisor to ensure orderly operation of the DC
  • Co‑ordinate work assignments as directed
  • Assist in maintaining the highest performance, housekeeping and safety standards
  • Develop and recommend operational improvements where appropriate and assist with implementation upon approval
  • Work within WMS/PKMS IT systems to monitor work flow and generate reports
  • Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor for the effective operation of the facility
Internal & External Contacts
  • Internal:
    Mgmt., supervision, union associates, clerks
  • External:
    Possibly truck drivers (shipping or receiving dept.)
Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct: N/A

Indirect:
Assist in directing hourly associates, monitoring work methods and recommend retraining and/or disciplinary action

Decision Making
  • Recommend associate job assignments, disciplinary actions
  • Move associates to eliminate bottlenecks when needed
Resourcefulness/Creativity

Effective in solving re‑occurring / non‑recurring issues restricting production

Qualifications & Experience
  • Option A: 1-3yrs distribution or relevant supervisory experience w/ 2yr degree.
  • Option B: 5yrs demonstrated supervisor/leadership experience, preferably in a distribution environment w/ high school diploma or equivalent required.
Skills

Must possess positive leadership skills, good communication skills (written and oral) and good organizational skills.
