Overview

The P QP Community Affairs Department at Hawaiian Electric Company seeks a Professional to develop, implement, and coordinate community engagement programs, strategies, and metrics to advance reliability and resilience initiatives, including wildfire mitigation and power generation, across Hawaiian Electric’s service territories.

Job Function

Develops, implements and coordinates community engagement programs, strategies, and metrics to advance critical reliability and resilience initiatives, specifically wildfire mitigation and power generation, with communities, customers, and the general public across Hawaiian Electric’s service territories.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements strategic community outreach and engagement plans across service territories (O‘ahu, Maui County, and Hawai‘i Island) to advance Company resilience and reliability goals and facilitate acceptance of Company initiatives, including PSPS equipment upgrades, vegetation management, and strategic undergrounding. Build relationships with residential customers, community leaders, neighborhood boards, and other civic and charitable organizations. Provide community relations leadership and oversee preparation for meetings, presentations, and materials for public outreach.

    Evening and/or weekend work may be necessary.
  • Acts as the Company’s community outreach and engagement lead for power generation capital projects, providing direction, consultation, and strategy development for projects and assisting in presentations for project managers. Conducts outreach and presentations to public groups and agencies and responds to escalated concerns from customers or community members.
  • Leads and coordinates project teams (engineers, contractors, suppliers), manages project communications, ensures safety/regulatory compliance, maintains daily records, and manages project costs and budget considerations.
  • Educates Company management and employees about customer and community concerns, tracks community sentiment, and provides training to employees and contractors on customer and community needs.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities (on standby 24/7) with a focus on PSPS Incident Management and related preparedness activities.
  • Collaborates with Government Relations and Corporate Communications on external communications; researches inquiries from officials and agencies as needed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of Company operations.
  • Working knowledge of utility industry operations (transmission and distribution, power supply, and system operation project management).
  • Familiarity with diverse communities served and relevant issues.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, economic, business, and political climates; communications techniques; and use of standard software (spreadsheets, word-processing).
  • Understanding of budgeting/forecasting and organizational behavior.
