Job Details:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Permanent Director of Health and Safety to join our dynamic team in the construction industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing health and safety policies in the workplace, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and promoting a culture of safety within the organization. This role requires a highly motivated individual with a strong background in health and safety, a deep understanding of DOT Standards, and a demonstrated ability to lead and influence at all levels of an organization.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop, implement, and manage health and safety programs and initiatives aligned with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
2. Oversee the inspection and evaluation of the workplace to ensure compliance with company policies and government safety regulations.
3. Lead a team of health and safety professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure effective operation.
4. Develop and deliver training programs for employees at all levels to promote health and safety awareness and understanding.
5. Conduct risk assessments, accident investigations, and safety audits, identifying areas of risk and implementing preventative measures.
6. Liaise with regulatory bodies, including OSHA and DOT, to ensure the company is compliant with all applicable laws and regulations.
7. Foster a positive safety culture within the organization through effective communication and leadership.
8. Keep abreast of new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
2. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a health and safety role within the construction industry.
3. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation is preferred.
4. Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local health and safety regulations, including DOT Standards.
5. Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey health and safety principles to a diverse workforce.
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks and implement effective solutions.
8. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with health and safety management systems.
9. Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, with a keen attention to detail.
10. Strong commitment to promoting a culture of safety within the organization.
