Job Summary
The Building Services Manager leads a close-knit team of Building Services Supervisors, overseeing custodial services, pest control, and event setup support across campus facilities. This role is responsible for developing team strategies, goals, and objectives to ensure efficient operations and maintain high service standards. Additionally, the position emphasizes training, coaching, and mentoring supervisors and staff, while fostering the development of future leaders.
PrimaryResponsibilities Operations (50%)
- Oversee 4 full‑time Building Services Supervisors, 6 part‑time Building Service Workers, and their assigned teams, including supervision and support of up to approximately 80 student employees.
- Supervise and participate in the work of the Events & Projects Team to ensure accurate and timely event setups and breakdowns.
- Direct, oversee, and as needed participate in event setup and breakdown activities.
- Respond to emergency calls and coordinate staff to provide needed support and services.
- May operate equipment such as sweepers, blowers, power washers, window washing equipment, ride‑on vacuums, electric carts, scrubbing machines, and steam cleaning machines.
- Oversee repair and maintenance of event and custodial equipment.
- Oversee the safe operation of custodial and event support equipment and may operate equipment as necessary.
- Perform Capital Needs Analysis (CNA) inspections and submit recommendations for repair, replacement, or improvements.
- Participate in the development of vendor and contractor scopes of work and oversee projects, including inventory replacement, deep cleaning and pest control services, to ensure quality standards and timely completion of work.
- Oversee the recruiting and hiring process for the team.
- Attend and hold regular meetings with staff, customers, departments and with team members to communicate work plans and provide solutions to needs.
- Provide regular training on safe cleaning techniques, chemical handling, and equipment operation.
- Follow and enforce all safety procedures, and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure that the work of the assigned staff meets established performance standards.
- Provide direction, coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities for supervisors and staff.
- Actively train, coach, and mentor upcoming leaders within the team and develop leadership skills, professionalism and customer service.
- May be asked to attend training conferences that require travel.
- Assist the manager with the Custodial and Events budget and help ensure operations remain within budget guidelines.
- Develop and update a Facility Cleaning Plan with direct reports to accomplish management goals and strategies.
- Monitor work orders completed by the team, ensure detailed documentation of work performed.
- Provide regular updates to management on team progress, assigned tasks, accomplishments, and any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Manage the inventory of custodial supplies, equipment, and furniture. Place orders and distribute as needed. Maintain records of accurate classroom capacities within the event management software.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in custodial services, facilities operations, event support services, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of experience supervising employees, preferably including supervision of supervisors or team leaders.
- Ability to lead and develop supervisors and large work teams.
- Strong organizational, planning, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
- Strong customer service and relationship‑building skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and operational challenges.
- Ability to analyze operational needs and recommend improvements.

Approximate starting salary: $61,000 – $69,000. The salary offered could be above or below range based on education and experience as it relates to the job description.
