Park Grounds Maintenance Supervisor
The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR), Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division, is seeking to fill a vacant position located in District IV (Windward & North Oʻahu). The role reports to the Park Grounds Maintenance Superintendent and supervises the care, maintenance, and beautification of parks, buildings, playgrounds, and other recreational areas.
What You Will Do- Conduct regular inspections of work assignments and check for compliance with performance requirements.
- Inspect buildings, equipment, and grounds for necessary repairs or improvements and initiate work orders as needed.
- Plan and make recommendations for improving existing facilities.
- Assign work to subordinate grounds maintenance personnel and schedule projects and duty assignments.
- Maintain time and attendance records for employees.
- Train and supervise grounds maintenance personnel; discipline and recommend disciplinary action as necessary.
- Operate a ¼ ton pick‑up truck to deliver supplies and monitor employees at assigned parks.
- Prepare and submit reports including timesheets, absences, leaves, and employee evaluations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- May be required to work weekends, nights, holidays, and special events.
- Will serve as disaster response worker during declared emergencies.

Education RequirementEquivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
Experience RequirementExperience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the care, maintenance, and beautification of grounds and landscaped areas, including at least two years of supervisor experience.
Applicable Skills Needed- Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision; planting, cultivation, pruning, and general care of plants, trees, and lawns; control, operation, and maintenance of grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
- Ability to plan assignments, direct, review, and inspect the work of others; design and develop landscaped areas; select proper plants for specific usage and conditions; prepare estimates of cost and requisitions for materials, tools, and equipment; keep records and prepare reports; and establish effective work relationships with subordinates and the general public.
Possession of a valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type
3) prior to appointment.
