Deputy Detention Facility Superintendent (DL) – Kapolei/Honolulu, Oahu
Recruitment Number: 26-087LM
Hours of Work: Rotating shift; work outside normal business hours to support a 24‑hour, 7 days/week, year‑round operation.
Location: Jurisdiction includes Kapolei and Honolulu locations; a valid driver’s license is required.
Responsibilities- Assist the Detention Facility Superintendent in directing and supervising facility operations.
- Supervise and coordinate day‑to‑day custody and care activities for juveniles.
- Oversee operational support services that complement detainee supervision.
- Act in the Superintendent’s absence and may be called in emergency situations during weekends, holidays, or after hours.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university, preferably majoring in behavioral or social science. A master’s degree in sociology, psychology, criminology, penology, social work, or a related field may substitute for the two‑year general experience requirement. A PhD in one of these fields may substitute for the general experience requirement and one year of specialized experience.

Experience:
Two (2) years of direct services to children and youth, including behavior management, counseling, casework, group‑work techniques, or rehabilitative methods. - Specialized
Experience:
Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional counseling or other social services work in a criminal‑justice setting (e.g., police, courts, corrections, or rehabilitation agencies), demonstrating knowledge of criminal‑justice principles and participation in program development or evaluation. - Supervisory Aptitude: Demonstrated potential for supervisory duties through team‑leadership roles, specialized assignments, or supervisory training, even without direct supervisory experience.
- Attitudinal Test: All applicants must pass an Attitudinal Test administered in Honolulu, Oahu, in person only; the test is not available online or out‑of‑state.
- Driver’s License: A valid, unexpired driver’s license is required for vehicle operation.
- PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Requirement: Applicants must not have engaged in sexual abuse with detainees or have civil or administrative adjudication for such conduct, nor be subject to substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or harassment related to the facility or its detainees.
