Safety Management Specialist IV

Responsibilities:

• Plan, organize, and execute safety and certification programs for airport operations, including aircraft rescue and firefighting.
• Implement safety management system components such as safety policy, risk management, assurance, and promotion.
• Collect and analyze data, provide system evaluations, and take corrective action as needed.
• Perform internal evaluations and other related duties as required.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, coordinate, and implement safety and certification programs for airport operations, including aircraft rescue and firefighting.
• Supervise and direct staff specialists in evaluating airport certification and safety programs.
• Provide technical and staff support in evaluating airport facilities and operations against FAA regulations and Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health laws.
• Mitigate wildlife hazards and conduct inspections, evaluations, and studies of airport facilities and operations to identify and correct deficiencies.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Education: Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor's degree.

Specialized Experience (Required for all levels):

• Progressively responsible professional work experience in a safety or risk management program, including developing policies and procedures.
• Conducting inspections and evaluations of facilities and operations for compliance.
• Recommending and implementing corrective actions.
• Developing training curriculum and conducting training of personnel.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge of FAA directives, laws, rules and regulations relating to airport certification and safety.

Level‑Specific

Experience:

• Safety Management Specialist IV: Minimum of 2½ years of progressively professional work experience.
• Safety Management Specialist V: Minimum of 3½ years of progressively professional work experience.

Supervisory Experience (Required for level V and supervisory aptitude for level IV):

• Planning, organizing, scheduling, and directing the work of others.
• Assigning and reviewing work.
• Advising subordinates on difficult work problems.
• Training and developing subordinates.
• Evaluating performance of subordinates.

Level V Requirement: One year of supervisory experience.

Level IV Requirement: Demonstration of supervisory aptitude as described above.

Additional Requirements:

• Valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
• Security Identification Area (SIDA) Clearance for positions requiring unescorted access to secured airport areas.
