Senior Project Manager, Wildfire Operations (Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island)

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and manage scope, schedule, and costs of major Energy Delivery capital projects requiring complex regulatory approvals, land/Right-of-Way acquisition, public relations management, and cross‑functional coordination from inception to project closing.
  • Serve as focal point for all project matters, mentor Project Managers, and ensure team members have the resources, information, and direction necessary to meet milestones.
  • Develop strategies to meet project and program goals, identify potential problems early, solve issues, and redirect design, procurement, permits, or construction activities to avoid delays or cost overruns.
  • Conduct construction site inspections as necessary.
  • Serve as project representative when engaging community groups, government agencies, media, utilities, private companies, City Council, State Legislature, and the PUC, obtaining permits, approvals, and resolving project‑related problems.
  • Prepare and present progress and cost reports internally and externally.
  • Work with Regulatory Affairs, Management Accounting & Financial Services, Community Relations, Government Relations, Corporate Communications, Legal, and other departments to obtain approvals and authorizations for expenditures and procurement.
  • Participate in Company emergency response activities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of project management principles, engineering, and construction practices in transmission, distribution, substation, and/or generation fields; usually acquired through college training or equivalent experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from PMI or equivalent organization.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical branches or certified Planner by AICP.
  • Working knowledge of PC software such as MS Project, Pillar, Ellipse, Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Knowledge of LEAN continuous improvement principles and basic safety principles.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills; strong interpersonal, leadership, analytical, organizational, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with tact, courtesy, and discretion; ability to work collaboratively with a variety of individuals and manage people at all levels.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with community and government leaders; remain flexible in a demanding environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license.
Experience
  • 8+ years as a project manager, construction manager, designer, or engineer on large complex projects, preferably within the electric utility industry.
  • 3–5 years of project management experience for small to large engineering/construction projects.
  • Experience with regulatory, social, and public affairs processes related to land‑use issues.
  • 3–5 years of leadership experience desirable.
