Position: LIFTING AND HANDLING MANAGER.

Duties

  • You will serve as the Lifting and Handling Program administrative and technical advisor to the Shipyard Commander.
  • You will oversee material distribution and personnel movement throughout the waterfront to support Lifting and Handling operations.
  • You will act as the Certifying Official for all Navy-owned and leased Weight Handling Equipment (WHE).
  • You will represent the shipyard at meetings and conferences, assisting in the development of lifting and handling policies and objectives.
  • You will oversee the inspection, testing, and maintenance of equipment and initiate corrective action as necessary.
Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR .
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector leading a diverse team at a waterfront nuclear-capable shipyard. This experience must include industrial engineering duties, scheduling, nuclear safety protocols, and resolving complex technical or operational challenges to maximize the departments efficiency and effectiveness.

Additional information

This position is subject to working an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This position requires exposure to high noise levels.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
