BRIEF POSTING

DESCRIPTION:

The P DI IGNITION MANAGEMENT Department of the P EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS & RESPONSE Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Manager Supervisor)

JOB FUNCTION:

Oversees and manages the Ignition Management Office to reduce the risk of utility-related ignitions, including coordination with the assigned Ignition Investigator and field personnel, managing the ignition assessment process, and notifying senior leadership and the company’s Legal Fire Response team at designated points throughout the ignition assessment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develops and updates the Ignition Assessment Program framework including timelines, procedures, roles and responsibilities, and communication plans.
  • Identifies investigatory standards in alignment with company strategic objectives to decrease ignitions and prevent catastrophic wildfires.
  • Develops and manages dashboards that supports the monitoring of ignition assessment related metrics for internal leadership, stakeholder communication, and regulatory reporting.
  • Provides analytical and statistical findings from trends, root cause reports and benchmarking data that can be leveraged into HECO risk models.
  • Monitors program effectiveness through established KPIs in accordance with business objectives and goals. Learning from past ignitions provides the feedback loop to the Wildfire Safety Strategy (WSS) on the effectiveness of the work streams contained in the WSS.
  • Develops and updates Ignition playbooks for future incidents.
  • Coordinates the implementation of corrective action plans and escalates unresolved issues to appropriate parties for resolution.
  • Provides training on ignition assessment procedures and program guidelines.
Department Management & Community Risk Reduction Programs
  • Manages and administers department personnel matters throughout the employment lifecycle including recruitment, development, training, counseling, performance appraisals, compensation/merit increases, recognition, and termination.
  • Conducts fire safety public education, and disaster preparedness programs. Develops, conducts and oversees fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and safety education activities, including preparation of informational materials; classroom and community group presentations; and attendance and speaking at public events.
  • Provides enhancements to training procedures including fire safe operations and tracking for internal and external contractors performing work on HECO’s behalf.
  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast on new developments within the field of fire science and prevention. Provides and participates in Fire Prevention training.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
Ignition Assessment
  • Deploys to the ignition site when company assets are threatened and as needed.
  • Conducts impact analyses and ignition assessment.
