Position: GAS DETECTION MONITOR LEADER.

Responsibilities

  • Perform "Drop" tests with a Multi‑Gas Monitor for an oxygen deficiency atmosphere and test for the presence of specific toxics depending on the nature of the space and its contents.
  • Determine if it is safe to enter spaces being tested.
  • Inspect spaces for the presence of flammable, combustible, toxic residues, blisters, or scale which may trap hazardous substances, rags, rope, wood, or other materials that may become dangerous upon application of heat.
  • Affix a confined space certificate tag indicating whether the space is safe or unsafe for personnel entry and applicant of hot work in or on the outer limits of the space.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 U.S.C. 3326.
  • Male applicants born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to duty. Failure may result in withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a mission‑essential position requiring continuity of operations.
  • May require travel to CONUS and OCONUS and to remote or isolated sites, including extended periods on military and commercial aircraft.
  • Successful completion of a pre‑employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
  • Must successfully complete a pre‑appointment physical examination.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously during the shift.
  • Must work aboard ships.
  • Must climb ladders and/or scaffolding.
  • Must work in small and/or confined spaces.
Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must demonstrate the level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasize quality of experience rather than length of time.

Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations. The position has a screen‑out element for “Ability to Lead or Supervise.” Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen‑out element(s) will be found ineligible.
