The Hawai‘i Tourism Authority (HTA) is the State of Hawai‘i’s primary agency for tourism. It is responsible for developing statewide tourism policies, planning, marketing, research, and destination management. The HTA is committed to promoting regenerative tourism that aligns with Hawai‘i’s economic goals, cultural values, natural resources, and community priorities.
Position SummaryThis position supports HTA’s branding, marketing, and destination management strategies and manages assigned markets, partner contracts, and tourism initiatives that promote responsible visitor demand aligned with regenerative tourism principles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Brand Management- Support Chief Brand Officer and Senior Brand Managers with contract oversight, deliverable tracking, and compliance.
- Monitor marketing partner contracts, budgets, ROI, and adherence to regenerative tourism guidelines.
- Track and analyze market conditions, including seasonality, economic factors, airlift, carrier activity, competitive destinations, and distribution channels.
- Evaluate effectiveness of marketing initiatives and partner strategies across stakeholder groups (communities, industry, government, visitors).
- Collaborate with marketing partners to ensure alignment with HTA’s strategic goals and accurate representation of Hawai‘i in global markets.
- Participate in trade shows, familiarization tours, seminars, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
- Support HTA Board meetings and industry-related engagements for assigned markets.
- Work with industry partners, legislators, counties, Destination Managers, and the Stewardship team on experience‑building initiatives.
- Attend tourism research and planning meetings to coordinate efforts and avoid duplication.
- Identify research needs and develop scopes of work, methodologies, schedules, and resource plans.
- Collaborate with public and private researchers to gather data and support studies.
- Analyze tourism data, interpret findings, and prepare reports, issue papers, and presentations.
- Maintain expertise in tourism policy, market trends, and assigned market areas.
- Gather input from industry partners to understand market needs and expectations.
- Monitor tourism-related trends, issues, and emerging opportunities.
- Coordinate stakeholder communications such as DMAP meetings, HTA Tourism Conference, Market Updates, and presentations.
- Conduct data analysis and prepare reports and recommendations for long‑range planning.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by the Chief Brand Officer.
- Travel industry management, marketing, business administration, research, and statistical analysis.
- Project management, communication, strategic planning, and proposal development.
- Hawaiian culture, natural resources, community programs, and Hawai‘i’s multicultural communities.
- Technology and social media platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to develop and evaluate marketing plans and public relations campaigns.
- Proficiency in interpreting contract terms and provisions.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; effective presenter.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to implement policies and directives within organizational frameworks.
- Bachelor’s degree in travel industry management, business, marketing, communications, management, or related field.
- Equivalent experience may substitute with HTA approval.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in travel industry management, event production, promotion, communications, advertising, or marketing.
- Substitutions may be approved by HTA leadership.
- Valid Hawai‘i Driver’s License.
