The Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance Foundation (HCAF) is recruiting for a full time Effective Conservation Program (ECP) Coordinator.

Founded in 2006, the Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the purpose and mission to support and advance the capacity building, native ecosystem and biocultural conservation work of the Hawaiʻi Conservation Alliance (Alliance) through fundraising, advocacy, and strategic outreach and communications.

The Alliance is a cooperative collaboration of conservation leaders representing twenty-eight government, education, and non-profit organizations working together to provide unified leadership for Hawaiʻi’s most critical conservation issues. Collectively, the Alliance is responsible for managing the biodiversity of Hawaiʻi’s lands and waters. Together, the Alliance and the HCAF strive to perpetuate native ecosystems and ensure the unique biodiversity of our islands endures.

The ECP Coordinator will coordinate and implement conservation actions developed within the Effective Conservation Program (ECP), in collaboration with and in support of the Hawaiʻi Sentinel Landscapes (HSL). The ECP fosters and facilitates collaborative “effective conservation” of the biocultural resources of Hawaiʻi by co-developing projects to improve and expand stewardship efforts. The ECP Coordinator will focus on expanding opportunities for project partnerships across the Alliance and HSL, especially projects that focus on implementation of recommended actions from the Alliance’s Status of Conservation Report (SOCR).

The Coordinator will work closely with HCAF and HSL leadership to achieve the complimentary conservation goals of Alliance and HSL partners.

Strong candidates will have experience in building and maintaining partnerships with individuals, organizations, and agencies from across the conservation sector. Project coordination experience and ability to facilitate collaborative and cross-sector efforts are required. We are seeking a self-motivated individual comfortable with working under tight deadlines with a desire for professional growth in a team-oriented work environment that fosters collaboration and requires strong interpersonal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of collaborative ECP and HSL strategic conservation projects
  • Co-develop conservation metrics for ECP priorities
  • Co-develop quarterly agendas and action items of the ECP subcommittee
  • Conduct annual review and revision (as appropriate) of the HCA Status of Conservation Report (SOCR)
  • Support the coordination of statewide collaborative conservation action trainings and/or workshops in collaboration with ECP partners
  • Participate in Hawaiʻi Conservation Conference planning and implementation
  • Provide support with ECP funding proposals and reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of bachelor’s degree in natural resources or related discipline
  • 1-3 years professional experience in biocultural conservation research and/or management in Hawaiʻi
  • Ability to build and maintain key effective working relationships with public and private conservation and adjacent sector partners in Hawaiʻi
  • Attention to detail and ability to synthesize partner ideas and incorporate them into collaborative actions
  • Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and execute on action items through completion
  • Experience in coordinating staff and partners schedules, use of collaborative cloud-based documents and web based and project management software
