The Communications and Development Coordinator is the operational and communications backbone of Family Promise of Hawaiʻi’s advancement team. This role ensures that every donor is acknowledged promptly, every piece of data is accurate, and every communication reflects the mission and values of our organization. From gift processing and database management to curating impact reports and social media posts, the Communications and Development Coordinator keeps the infrastructure of our fundraising program running with care and precision.
This role reports to the Director of Advancement.
Family Promise of Hawaiʻi (FPH) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to transform the lives of families with children in Hawaiʻi facing homelessness by providing housing, resources, and support. Founded in 2005, FPH operates emergency shelters to give families a safe place to sleep, study, and get back on their feet; provides individualized case management and rental assistance to help families navigate and overcome their challenges;
and organizes community-based opportunities to help families build skills and social capital. Each year, FPH serves hundreds of families on Oʻahu and Maui.
- Draft and produce impact reports and stewardship communications that connect donors to mission outcomes, including quarterly impact reports and the annual report.
- Manage the organization’s digital presence, website, and communications.
- Create and schedule weekly social media posts and monthly email newsletters to cultivate donors and increase organizational visibility.
- Work with case managers and other staff to collect and share data and stories of the organization’s impact.
- Draft and send press releases to media outlets and community partners.
- Track media coverage and mentions, adding relevant press hits to FPH's website.
- Prepare briefing materials and provide scheduling support for donor cultivation visits conducted by the Director and Executive Director.
- Coordinate grant reporting by compiling program data and tracking submission deadlines.
- Support fundraising events, including the annual gala and individual donor events.
- Attend community events on behalf of Family Promise as needed.
- Support the annual appeals, including drafting mail and email appeal content and coordinating segmentation and mailing logistics.
- Coordinate, accept, and process all in-kind donations.
- Manage and maintain the donor database, ensuring up-to-date constituent profiles, gift entry accuracy, data integrity, and up-to-date moves tracking.
- Process all incoming gifts and generate acknowledgment letters within 48 hours of receipt.
- Conduct prospect research to support cultivation strategies for major and mid-level donors.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Excellent writing skills, with attention to voice, detail, and narrative; able to fluidly write across formats and genres while maintaining brand consistency and adhering to professional conventions.
- Track record of planning and implementing creative marketing strategies.
- Proficiency in digital tools and platforms for outreach and content creation, including social media platforms and graphic design software.
- Knowledge of best practices and trends in email and social media communications.
- Ability to conduct effective community outreach and build relationships.
- A team player who’s open to feedback and adaptable to change in a dynamic work environment.
- A passion for the mission and vision of Family Promise of Hawaiʻi.
- 1-3 years of nonprofit or related professional experience.
- Experience in a fundraising or development environment.
- Experience managing communications and marketing.
- Experience in Adobe InDesign, or similar software.
