Public Health, Emergency Crisis Mgmt / Disaster Relief
The Community Preparedness and Resiliency (CPR) Portfolio at Hawaii Public Health Institute (HIPHI) aims to strengthen community infrastructure and promote sustainable practices through collaborative efforts across Hawaii. CPR’s work focuses on building capacity in areas such as disaster preparedness, food systems, and crisis management to empower our communities’ ability to respond, adapt, and thrive.
Member DutiesThe VISTA member will strengthen the internal capacity of the CPR Portfolio to address vulnerability to disasters, food insecurity, and poor health outcomes most impacting our low-income communities. Low-income families can't afford emergency supplies, and struggle to absorb losses from disaster damage. They're more likely to face limited food access, slower emergency responses that deepen poverty through lost wages and unrepaired housing.
Gaps in trusted health information compound these harms, leaving families unprepared. To interrupt this cycle, the VISTA will design internal communication systems and messaging frameworks so critical health and safety information reaches under-resourced communities quickly. They will also build partnership tracking tools that strengthen HIPHI's coordination with trusted organizations, and develop fund development tools, grant databases, and proposal templates that secure sustained funding for poverty-focused perparedness and recovery work.
