This position is located at the Hawaii State Hospital in the Nursing Services Section's Patient Care Units Nurse Managers Unit.

The primary purpose of this position is to supervise unit-based nursing staff and unit clerks in the provision of quality patient care and psychosocial rehabilitation in a safe environment. The Nurse Manager will support the hospital's strategic plan and facilitate completion of the action plan. He/she is responsible for organizing and managing resources to facilitate all care and treatment for their assigned patient population 24 hours daily.

The Nurse Manager has the authority to identify problems, collaboratively develop and implement solutions and communicate directly with discipline chiefs and department heads for the benefit of patient care and treatment. He/she ensures and oversees that varied interdisciplinary treatment programs are being implemented and followed by unit staff.

• Hawaii Registered Nurse License:
  Applicants must possess a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Hawaii at the time of application.
• Certification in Nursing Administration and/or Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from ANA (American Nurses Association) is preferred.
• One and one-half (1-1/2) years of professional nursing experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care services in a hospital setting. At least one (1) year of such experience must have been comparable to the Registered Professional Nurse III level in the State Service and must have involved nursing experience in a mental health setting.
• Supervisory aptitude:
  Applicants must possess supervisory aptitude demonstrated through successful completion of assignments involving supervisory responsibilities or by serving as a group or team leader, completing training courses in supervision, or favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.
