Overview

School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH) invites qualified applicants for a non-tenure eligible, full-time, 9‑month faculty position as Assistant Instructor (Nursing). The position is expected to begin the Fall Semester 2026 or as mutually acceptable. Renewal of appointment is dependent on performance, program needs and/or availability of funds.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned courses in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Specific priority of need is psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
  • Participate in curriculum development activities as appropriate or assigned.
  • Participate in supervising and facilitating practicum and simulation student activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field from a college or university of recognized standing.
  • Current (or be eligible for) unrestricted RN license to practice in Hawai‘i.
  • National certification as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
  • Current (or be eligible for) unrestricted APRN license to practice in Hawai‘i.
  • One year of full‑time work experience in the area of advanced practice nursing specialty.
  • Engaged in professional practice on a unit with a similar patient population and level of patient acuity where the applicant will be assigned for supervising advanced practice nursing students.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively, provide clinical supervision, provide student feedback, and direct group discussion.
  • Demonstrated professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
  • Demonstrated competency in interdisciplinary team work and team science.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field from a college or university of recognized standing.
  • Experience supervising nursing advanced practice practicum students.
  • Coursework in curriculum development and health sciences education.
  • Demonstrated competency in Evidence Based Practice and DNP Scholarly projects.
