Forester VI:
This class serves as the top‑level staff consultant in the development of new techniques in a specialized area of forestry management, the development of new programs to provide for maximum utilization of forestry resources and the formulation and revision of policies, procedures, and guidelines; and performs other related duties as assigned. This class represents those foresters who are recognized as mature professional authorities for their functional activity.
Assignments involve the initiation and implementation of complex analyses or studies to define tangible objectives or plans and scope of activity, following which a forester at this level proposes alternative solutions, recommendations or decisions or takes actions which have a considerable impact on various programs in the functional area.
Who we are:
The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife manages state Forest Reserves, Natural Area Reserves, Wildlife Sanctuaries, Game Management Areas, and Public Hunting Areas. Program areas include forestry, wildlife, trails and access, and natural area reserves. Na Ala Hele (NAH) is the State of Hawai'i Trail and Access Program. The program manages trail access and conducts maintenance to provide critical public services, including recreational opportunities, experiences related to cultural history and historic trails, and economic opportunities where possible for commercial trail vendors.
NAH trails are also crucial for access to natural areas for management, research, hunting, and wildfire response.
As the Division of Forestry and Wildlife Forester VI (Outdoor Recreation Manager), you will be directly responsible for administering, managing, formulating, and coordinating the Outdoor Recreation Section and Na Ala Hele (NAH) Trails and Access Program. The position provides leadership, technical expertise, guidance, and policy to NAH Branch staff statewide on outdoor recreation and trail and access issues and activities, public safety, negotiation with private landowners, commercial ecotour operations, and database management utilizing the current principles and regulatory framework associated with managing multiple recreational uses in a manner that will best serve the environment, cultural, and recreational needs of the public.

Minimum Qualification RequirementsTo qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Basic Education RequirementsGraduation with a bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major study in forestry or a closely related field which must have included fifteen (15) semester hours with curriculum sufficiently diversified to include courses in each of the following three (3) subject areas:
