Overview

Veterinary Emergency + Referral Center of Hawaii (VERC) is looking for an Ophthalmologist to join their growing team. VERC is an advanced 24-hour veterinary emergency and specialty hospital, the first of its kind in Hawaii. Our board-certified specialists and emergency professionals provide a collaborative approach to veterinary medicine. The facility includes a 17,250 square foot state-of-the-art environment with an oncology suite and advanced diagnostic equipment, including ultrasound, endoscopy, digital radiography, 128-slice CT scan, MRI, fluoroscopy, and in-house laboratory.

Our staff includes specialists in critical care, internal medicine, neurology, surgery, oncology, radiology, physical rehabilitation, as well as experienced emergency veterinarians and technicians.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with board-certified specialists, emergency doctors, technicians, and client care staff to provide great patient care and coordinate with referring veterinarians.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in ophthalmology and changing medical guidance in the field.
  • Contribute to a collaborative medical environment that supports safety and wellness for patients, clients, and staff.
Qualifications
  • Board-certified or residency-trained ophthalmologist; motivated, energetic, and able to fit with a cohesive team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with a multidisciplinary team and referring veterinarians.
  • Commitment to keeping up with evolving medical guidance and best practices in ophthalmology.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Base compensation range: $190,000 – $230,000 annually, depending on experience and board certification.
  • Signing bonus, relocation allowance, and tailored relocation assistance, including support from a local real estate agent.
  • Biannual travel stipend, short-term housing assistance, and additional support during transition to Oahu.
  • Comprehensive benefits program including medical, dental, vision, 401k with employer match, and paid time off (including sick time).
  • Paid travel expenses for an interview visit to tour the hospital.
