FUL - Biological Science Technician; Wildlife

Summary

You will serve as a FUL - Biological Science Technician (Wildlife) Fish and Wildlife Service Region One. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of ten years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition at management's discretion.

• Help plan and carry out wildlife surveys and recommend wildlife management actions.
• Assist in planning complex wildlife studies by suggesting ideas, choosing research methods, and setting up procedures, as well as identifying needed costs, equipment, and staffing.
• Monitor and help manage wildlife populations, plant disease issues, invasive plants, mowing/seeding work, and vegetation removal.
• Capture wildlife, apply visual and radio tags, and collect physiological and movement data.
• Track environmental conditions such as temperature, precipitation, streamflow, snow depth, wind, and humidity.
• Build databases and analyze data using standard statistical methods for wildlife reports.
• Use GIS and other systems to enter and retrieve data.
• Create charts, graphs, and illustrations with software such as Microsoft PowerPoint or Harvard Graphics.
• Operate tractors, trucks, small watercraft, and equipment such as generators, radios, radio-tracking gear, water-monitoring devices, GPS units, and cameras.
• Provide direction and guidance to biological technicians, volunteers, and YCC participants, including safe use of tools and vehicles.
• Attend meetings with landowners, sports groups, and local government officials.

You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;

or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
