The Bakery Associate supports guest service across coffee, tea, juice, and bakery offerings in accordance with Halekulani standards, and assists in maintaining the boulangerie, kitchen, and equipment.
Responsibilities- Take guests’ food and beverage orders using suggestive selling techniques; serve orders to guests.
- Prepare beverage orders such as specialty coffee, tea, and other items offered in the boulangerie and restaurant.
- Assist guests with orders and prepare as requested to ensure timely delivery.
- Maintain complete knowledge of bakery products, coffee and tea characteristics and descriptions.
- Maintain positive guest relations; promote programs through guest interaction and feedback.
- Maintain knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment.
- Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all guests.
- Clean and reset tables immediately and complete opening/closing side duties as assigned.
- Perform proper check settlement, tip reporting, and closing reconciliation procedures.
- Replenish products in the display case and retrieve items from bakery area as needed.
- Maintain, prepare, and stock logo packaging items for all bakery items.
- Be familiar with hotel services/features and local attractions to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
- Resolve guest complaints to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas.
- Check storage areas for proper supplies and cleanliness; inform designated personnel to address deficiencies.
- Establish par levels, monitor order status, and ensure timely delivery.
- Assist other staff as needed and complete paperwork and closing duties per departmental standards.
- Perform all other duties as may be required or assigned.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent vocational training; prior restaurant service and guest relations experience preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform essential functions.
Licenses/Certifications
- Liquor Commission Card as required by state law.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to anticipate guest needs and respond promptly while maintaining positive guest relations.
- Familiarity with all hotel services/features and local attractions; respond to guest inquiries accurately.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to multi-task and prioritize tasks; proficient with POS systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members.
Mental Demands
- Ability to comprehend, analyze, organize, and prioritize information within time limits.
- Ability to read and perform mathematical calculations; maintain concentration under stress.
- Maintain courteous and professional demeanor; work collaboratively with others.
Physical Demands
- Access to all bakery areas; move equipment and merchandise as needed.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally; stand/walk for up to eight hours per shift; repetitive movements and reaching up to six feet.

Communication Demands
- Oral and written communication with co-workers, guests, and business associates; respond to requests and provide instructions as needed.
- Primarily indoors, air-conditioned restaurant; some exposure to outdoor heat/humid weather.
- Moderate noise levels; exposure to chemicals and materials used in restaurant operations.
- Directly used equipment includes computer, calculator, telephone, copy machine, and other standard office/restaurant equipment.
