Job Summary

Performs various duties within the Micro Market and vending machines, including but not limited to functionality and operation of machines, availability of products, money‑changing machines and payment kiosks, and ensuring maintenance upkeep of machines as required. Sells general merchandise to customers exercising professional selling techniques, providing service that anticipates and exceeds customer expectations. Operates a motor vehicle throughout the geographical area and on public roads in connection with performance of job duties.

Responsibilities

Maintains Exchange‑owned machines and Micro Markets daily. Inspects and replenishes products—including sandwiches, cakes, pies, popcorn, salads, fruits, pastries, sodas, yogurt, laundry detergent, and others—ensuring shelf‑life dates are adhered to and expired items are removed. Sanitizes areas and prevents spoilage of foods.

Greets and engages customers, assisting them in product selection and suggesting complementary items. Keeps assigned areas fully stocked and merchandise neatly arranged. Communicates with supervisors regarding inventory needs, sales trends, and customer feedback. Participates in department meetings and actively offers ideas for improving customer service, job performance, and sales goals.

Sets up and maintains prices and all Exchange‑branded visual programs in Micro Markets and applicable machines. Maintains a current price list for products sold in the micro market. Keeps the micro market clean and orderly—sweeping, mopping, wiping counter‑tops, wiping down coolers, and emptying trash cans.

Assists with resetting merchandise at least annually to ensure product adjacencies, branding, and placement standards are met. Operates laptop/tablet, scanner, handheld, and other electronic devices needed for inventory, receiving, and ordering within the micro market.

Assists in relocating and installing new machines, cleaning interiors and exteriors, and making settings and adjustments on food dispensing, liquid dispensing, and coin‑changer units.

Collects money from vending machines, micro market kiosks, or other miscellaneous machines according to the established schedule. Accompanies vending contractors to verify cash taken from vendor‑owned machines. Records all information during machine servicing via handheld devices, manually records counts of products, and prepares Vending Machines Cash Collection Slip (SS/411). Clears coin jams and makes refunds at designated locations when required.

Responsible for inventory control of micro markets, trucks, routes, and related systems. Collects turn‑in money bags daily from Cash Handling Clerks, counts and verifies receipts, prepares Daily Cash Receipt (SS/120), and arranges for deposit per procedures. Receives bills from Cash Handling Clerk and purchases coins from Cashier's Cage Navy Exchange.

Interacts with customers and coworkers in a friendly and professional manner, adhering to the NEX dress code/uniform standards while supporting other vending team members. Becomes knowledgeable regarding merchandise set‑up, use, care, and product characteristics, and communicates this information to customers with clarity.

Operates a motor vehicle as required, loading and unloading merchandise by hand or dolly, ensuring protection from damage or inclement weather. Prepares and maintains Daily Trip Report of all trips made. Coordinates preventive maintenance such as oil changes, tune‑ups, and brakes with designated NEX personnel, maintaining fuel levels and keeping receipts for refueling and maintenance. Keeps the vehicle interior clean and returns it to the designated parking area at the end of the workday.

Performs other related duties assigned.
