The Sr. National Account Manager (NAM), Federal Markets is responsible for developing and evolving the strategic operating plan for the Federal Accounts and managing the customer(s)’ business. The candidate is accountable for securing profitable access for all BIIB products and serves as the single face of Biogen for the account(s). They are responsible for managing their customers’ entire book of business, have a deep understanding of their business model and growth strategies, establish broad, key executive relationships, and look for innovative ways to drive Biogen’s business.
They direct large, stakeholder internal teams to create strategies to optimize product revenue, ensure profitable access, maximize outcomes, and develop customer initiatives.
- Manage all business with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, TRICARE, Public Health Services, and Indian Health clinical pathways.
- Ensure profitable access across all business units, monitor and report on product profitability and performance.
- Develop and oversee internal pull‑through and push‑through initiatives.
- Engage Biogen colleagues as necessary to support access and client relationships and resolve issues internally.
- Educate, communicate, and coordinate with all segments of the business within the respective accounts and operate as a single point of contact.
- Demonstrate the value of our products and services to position Biogen as a leader in the industry.
- Develop strategic account plans and monitor business progress toward achieving short‑term initiatives and long‑term strategies.
- Share key customer insights and product trends with senior leadership, shaping current and future strategies.
- Direct franchise teams to achieve customer and product strategies and goals.
- Negotiate product contracts where applicable and monitor contract compliance.
- Participate in business reviews across therapeutic areas as an SME on assigned accounts and as a spokesperson for Market Access and Reimbursement.
- Create reports and presentations for senior leadership on customer performance and financial trends.
- Represent Biogen at key federal conferences and congresses (AMSUS, PVA, NAMCP).
- Minimum 7+ years pharmaceutical/biotech experience.
- Minimum of 4+ years’ experience in Federal Accounts, with a preference for a veteran candidate.
- Strong presentation skills, able to clearly convey ideas to key internal partners.
- Strong relationships with national key stakeholders within the government sector.
- Ability to lead within a matrix team, accomplishing results through both formal channels and informal networks.
- Strategic thinker with a deep understanding of policies, practices, and procedures, able to interact with senior leaders and build consensus across functional groups.
- Demonstrated success in account management with an understanding of the nuances and complexity of the federal government space.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record as required by Biogen policy.
30% travel.
Education• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Master’s level or higher preferred.
Base compensation range: $165,100 – $247,700. Base salary is determined by a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job‑related years of relevant experience, internal equity, and job location. The role is eligible for participation in Biogen’s LTI grants and other incentive programs.
