Position: BIOSECURITY INSPECTOR I - SHIFTWORK - KONA, HAWAII ISLAND (OHHI)

Job Summary

Entry trainee level in the Biosecurity Inspector series, designed to provide a career-oriented introduction to the background, philosophy, concepts, scope and interrelationships of the State’s plant and non‑domestic animal quarantine and pest control programs.

Salary

$4,243 per month (SR‑16, Step

D)

Shift Work

Applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident of the United States, or otherwise authorized for unrestricted employment.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university in one of the following areas:
      • Agricultural, Landscape, or Integrated Pest Management;
        Entomology;
        Horticulture;
        Nematology;
        Plant and Environmental Protection Science;
        Plant Pathology;
        Tropical Agriculture and the Environment; or Tropical Plant and Soil Science.
      • Biological or Agricultural Science with coursework in:
        • One course in entomology, nematology, pest management, plant and environmental protection science, plant pathology, tropical agriculture and the environment, virology, or related courses.
        • One course in agroecology, agronomy, botany, horticulture, plant physiology, tropical plant and soil science, weed science, or related courses.
    • Demonstrated ability to write clear and comprehensive reports, read and interpret complex written material, perform basic arithmetic, and solve complex problems logically and systematically.
  • Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
  • Special Physical Requirement: Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
