Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Hawai‘i Ant Lab, located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.

DUTIES- Conduct field surveys for invasive ants and assist in identifying specimens collected as a result of surveys, as well as from samples submitted by the public and other agencies.
- Collect data on efficiency and post-treatment monitoring of operational plans.
- Participate in ant data collection efforts and enter data into appropriate databases.
- Provide comprehensive training on invasive ant management and technical assistance to partner agencies, private industry stakeholders, and community stakeholders.
- Drive to and from field sites and events.
- Assist in other activities related to the invasive ant strategy for Hawai‘i, including applied research and extension activities.
- Assist with implementing eradication and mitigation plans.
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
EXPERIENCELevel I: 3‑5 years of experience in natural resources, agriculture, nursery and landscaping, insect pest control, or science communication related field. (Associate’s Degree in a natural science or communication related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.)
KNOWLEDGEGood knowledge of extension and outreach methodologies, invasive species and conservation issues. Basic understanding of agriculture, nursery and landscaping, or insect pest control industry practices.
ABILITIES & SKILLSGood oral and written communication skills; computer skills in word processing, spread sheeting and basic office software. Valid driver’s license and personal driver’s insurance. American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR (obtainable within three (3) months of hire). Completion of online Hazard Communication training upon hire.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDSMust be able to conduct field work in remote locations under adverse conditions as needed.
POLICY/REGULATORY REQUIREMENTEmployee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies, procedures, and trainings and, as applicable, to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies, procedures, and trainings.
SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONSUnderstanding of invasive ant issues and control strategies in Hawai‘i. Understanding of integrated pest management concepts.
