Salary: $5,107 to $6,221 per month (SR-20, Step D to I) (effective July 1, 2026)

The Chemist III performs a variety of chemical and physical tests to establish the identity, composition, condition and/or quality of substances in a specialized area of assignment and performs other duties as required.
Qualifications- Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university with a major in chemistry or a closely related science that includes at least 30 semester credit hours in chemistry courses (organic, inorganic, analytical, and/or physical chemistry).
- Specialized
Experience:
One year of professional work experience demonstrating the ability to apply the scientific laws and principles of chemistry to predict results; to interpret and evaluate the results of professional research or analyses by other chemists; or to assess the need for and validity of proposed changes and improvements in laboratory procedures and methods. - Substitutions Allowed: Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply.
