Job Overview
This is the entry trainee level in the Biosecurity Inspector series, designed to provide a career-oriented introduction to the State’s plant and non-domestic animal quarantine and pest control programs. On‑job training assignments provide practical understanding and initial introduction to the organization, programs, policies and objectives of the agency as well as preliminary experience in applying principles, procedures, work processes, techniques and scientific reference material to actual situations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Shift Work
Applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Salary
$4,368 per month (SR‑16, Step
D)

Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas:
- Agricultural, Landscape, or Integrated Pest Management;
Entomology;
Horticulture;
Nematology;
Plant and Environmental Protection Science;
Plant Pathology;
Tropical Agriculture and the Environment; or Tropical Plant and Soil Science; - Biological or Agricultural Science – the education must have included coursework described in (A) and (B) below:
- One (1) course in entomology, nematology, pest management, plant and environmental protection science, plant pathology, tropical agriculture and the environment, virology, or related courses;
- One (1) course in agroecology, agronomy, botany, horticulture, plant physiology, tropical plant and soil science, weed science, or related courses.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex written material; perform basic arithmetical computations; and solve complex problems logically and systematically.
- Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
- Physical ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.

Background Check
