Position: AQUACULTURE SPECIALIST V - OAHU

Job Overview

Staff specialist in Aquaculture and Biosecurity for the Department of Agriculture, located in Halawa, Hawaii. Responsible for evaluating project proposals, preparing and executing contracts, monitoring projects, securing funding opportunities, and reviewing complex plans for technical feasibility. Conducts research and develops recommendations for aquaculture producers, requiring comprehensive knowledge of industry policies, rules, and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate project proposals, assess technical feasibility, and make recommendations.
  • Prepare and execute contracts and monitor ongoing projects.
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities for aquaculture projects.
  • Conduct complex research and develop recommendations for aquaculture producers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry policies, rules, and regulations.
Qualifications
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four‑year college or university in animal sciences, aquaculture, marine sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in aquaculture commercial production, program administration, or research, demonstrating knowledge of both scientific and business elements of aquaculture.
  • Experience in species biology, site assessment, pond design and development, harvesting techniques, disease diagnosis and prevention, health management, water quality management, water chemistry, soil analysis, production management, and business management of aquaculture production.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position at the required scope and level of responsibility.
