Summary
You will serve as a WELDER LEADER in the Department of the Navy, operating at multiple shipyards and facilities including Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.
Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: if you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A.
- Pass on instructions to members of the work group.
- Check and report work progress of the group.
- Perform work site inspections.
- Receive job or work assignments from welding supervisor.
- Document and report work progress of the group, including written documentation and shift assist requests.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code § 3326.
- Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This may be a bargaining unit position.
- Successful completion of a pre‑appointment physical examination may be required.
- Obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
- This is a drug testing position; a pre‑employment drug test is required.
- Personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes must be worn continuously for the duration of each shift.
- Work may be performed in areas where harmful physical and chemical agents are present; medical surveillance programs may be required.
- May require exposure to high noise levels.
- May require travel to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites; ability to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods is required.
- May require uncommonly scheduled tours, including nights, weekends, and holidays; overtime or night differential pay may be required.
Applicants must demonstrate the quality level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
