Position: SHIPWRIGHT LEADER.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and layout work using blueprints, sketches, work orders, and other specifications.
  • Work safely in all areas and understand and adhere to safety procedures and requirements.
  • Ensure that tools used are in good, safe operating condition to accomplish work.
  • Ensure that tools, materials, and equipment are properly used, stored and maintained.
  • Lay out work for the group, taking the lead in setting the pace performing non‑supervisory work of the same kind as done by the group led.
  • Estimate materials, plan work and assume lead in erecting various types of staging (mast, hanging, etc.) in a safe and economical manner.
  • Check work in progress and when completed to assure proper quantity and quality of output from each worker.
  • Resolve any problems that may arise, such as ambiguous aspects of job specifications, unattainable completion dates, substitution of materials, additional manpower, surplus manpower, etc.
  • Lead the work of others to include ensuring that the work production of those led is in keeping with standards, deadlines, etc.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre‑appointment physical examination.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non‑ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to meet the following physical requirements: visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, close hand‑eye‑foot coordination, finger dexterity, and keen hearing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to work onboard ships.
  • You will be required to climb ladders and/or scaffolding.
  • You will work in small and/or confined spaces.
  • You will at times be required to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasize quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
