Job Summary
The HVAC/Plumbing Technician is responsible for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and commercial HVAC and plumbing systems. Supports safe, efficient, and reliable operation of building systems while ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and company standards. Demonstrates reliability, attention to detail, strong problem‑solving skills, and commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Depending on qualifications, work may be performed independently or under the supervision of a senior technician.

- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including water supply lines, drainage systems, valves, and fixtures.
- Inspect and maintain water heaters, pressure‑reducing valves, boilers, pumps, backflow prevention devices, irrigation systems, and other related equipment.
- Inspect systems for leaks, blockages, and pressure issues using gauges and diagnostic tools.
- Identify root causes of malfunctions and perform effective repairs or replacements.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures and infrastructure to ensure safe, efficient, and code‑compliant operation.
- Install, maintain, and repair residential and commercial HVAC systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues to maintain optimal performance and efficiency.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance, including cleaning coils, checking for leaks, replacing filters, and lubricating components.
- Calibrate thermostats, sensors, and control systems for accurate temperature regulation.
- Inspect and repair piping, ductwork, and insulation to improve system functionality and energy efficiency.
- Oversee and manage daily tasks of student employees to ensure productivity and accountability.
- Assign projects and monitor progress to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
- Mentor, coach, and provide constructive feedback to support technical and professional development.
- Design and conduct training programs to build technical and professional skills, including safety training on proper use of tools, equipment, machinery, and hazardous materials.
- Promote lifelong work habits such as integrity, dependability, effective communication, and professionalism.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to plan and execute work.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent.
- Collaborate and communicate clearly with engineers, supervisors, technicians, contractors, and campus personnel to ensure efficient facility operations and maintenance support.
- Safely and effectively operate a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Follow OSHA safety standards, building codes, and university policies.
- Participate in an on‑call rotation to respond to after‑hours emergencies.
- Support emergency operations, including preparedness, response, and recovery efforts related to severe weather events and other emergency events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two (2) years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, facilities maintenance, or a closely related trade.
- Experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial and/or residential HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Experience using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and trade‑specific equipment.
- Certification in refrigeration or other related certifications preferred but not required.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
- Basic knowledge of electrical and HVAC systems, including components, controls, and refrigeration principles.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, irrigation, sewer systems, and backflow prevention principles and practices.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple work orders and meet deadlines.
