Kamehameha Schools, Hawaii Campus is looking for a Temporary Building Maintenance Repairer to perform general and preventative maintenance and repairs to facilities and equipment.

Our ideal candidate will be a mid-level maintenance & repair professional with at least 3 years of experience in a variety of trades to include, but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, masonry, and welding. This will be a 6-month temporary assignment with the ability to extend. Candidates must be available to work on Saturdays (day or evening depending on event schedule).

The remainder of the weekly schedule will be based on your availability and business need.

Job Summary

Mid-level position that works with minimal direction and supervision to perform general and/or preventative maintenance and repairs to buildings, facilities, and equipment. Occasionally performs skilled work independently or with other skilled trades workers.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Repair
    • Assists trades workers, contractors, and Building Maintenance Repairer III in the skilled maintenance trades (including, but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, masonry, welding) by performing moderately complex duties of equal or lesser skill to a high level of workmanship quality as specified by manager, working foreman, or department practices.
    • Provides instruction and supervision to Building Maintenance Repairer I.
    • Assesses materials and tools required for work to be performed efficiently and cost-effectively.
    • Prepares or instructs others to prepare work areas for work to be performed, and cleans or instructs others to clean work areas, machines, and equipment following work completion.
    • Independently performs unskilled work to maintain and repair buildings, building systems, equipment, and interior finishes, or minor skilled maintenance and repair tasks. Occasionally performs skilled work.
  • Safety
    • Attends all technical and safety training, including on-the-job training, uses all PPE, and adheres to safety guidance.
    • Assesses work to be performed in advance to identify work-related risks and implements proper mitigations to ensure safety.
    • May instruct others in proper risk assessment and workplace safety best practices.
    • Reports all safety hazards to supervisor and/or immediately corrects if able to.
  • Administrative Records
    • Time worked and reports tasks completed in computerized work order management system using desktop computers and/or mobile technology devices.
    • Participates in campus and department events and activities as scheduled.
    • Constructively identifies and suggests ways to improve organizational effectiveness and operational efficiency.
    • Adheres to all employee handbook protocols and policies including mandatory reporting.
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with basic computer knowledge
  • 3 years of work experience in building maintenance, general construction, or other related field
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Able to be certified to operate forklift, scissor lift, and/or skid loader
  • Good work ethic, including punctuality and good attendance
  • Positive attitude and willingness to continuously learn new skills and knowledge; ability to demonstrate increasing competence
  • Ability to train and instruct others in the performance of unskilled work
  • Basic arithmetic and geometry
  • Ability to read and comprehend training materials and correctly instruct others
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow safety instructions and correctly instruct others
  • Ability to interpret sketches for work to be performed
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills
