Recruitment Number: DLIR-. Full‑time position located in Downtown Honolulu, Oahu. Salary: $6,482 to $6,964 monthly (SR‑19, Step C to I). Hiring rates depend on availability of funds and applicant qualifications.
Duties SummaryReceives training in safety laws, codes, regulations, and accident investigation methods. Accompanies higher level Inspector on inspections and receives training in elevator and related equipment inspection and accident investigation. As competence is gained, performs progressively responsible inspection activities.
Examples of Duties- Study safety and equipment codes, standards, and operating policies.
- Relate safety codes to machinery, construction methods, mechanical and electrical controls, operations, and work site.
- Observe and participate in periodic inspections and tests of elevators, escalators, moving walks, hoists, amusement rides, etc.
- Consult with building owners, managers, designers, contractors on compliance with safety laws.
- Review plans for new installations or renovations for compliance with safety laws.
- Assist in conducting acceptance tests for new or renovated equipment.
- Prepare reports of inspection results with recommendations.
- Assist in investigation of accidents involving inspected equipment.
- Utilize tools such as tachometer, rope diameter gauge, pressure gauge, light meter.
- Attend meetings, seminars and education programs.
- Climb masts, towers, and other equipment several stories above the ground.
- Legal Authorization to Work:
Citizen, national, permanent resident alien, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the U.S. - Prerequisite Knowledge and Abilities:
- English and mathematics.
- Basic electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles relevant to elevator industry.
- Ability to read and interpret laws, codes, regulations, drawings, and diagrams.
- Prepare simple reports; follow oral and written instructions.
- Experience Requirement:
- Five (5) years of progressive experience as an elevator mechanic (including apprenticeship and post‑apprenticeship). or
- Satisfactory completion of two (2) years of college coursework in mechanical and/or electrical engineering and one (1) year of progressive experience as an elevator mechanic (including apprenticeship). or
- Comparable combination of mechanical or electrical trade training or experience accepted by NAESA or ASME accredited organization.
- Selective Certification – Driver’s License Type 3:
Valid type 3 driver’s license required.
