Job Responsibilities

Entry‑level inspector focused on inspection and certification of state agricultural commodities, with emphasis on fundamental procedures, concepts, laws, rules, and regulations. Duties include performing inspections, collecting data, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Performs related duties as assigned.

Duties Summary

The state’s agricultural commodity and marketing programs are aimed at regulating, stabilizing, and expanding produce markets; facilitating trade; providing orderly marketing; improving quality of agricultural products; enhancing competitive status of Hawaii‑grown products; and protecting the public and industry from misrepresented products or unfair practices.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • Legal Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture from an accredited four‑year college or university; or equivalent work experience substantiated by official documentation.
  • Progressively responsible administrative, professional, technical, or analytical work experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in agriculture may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Special ability – lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted and 100 lbs assisted.
  • Valid driver’s license to drive in the State of Hawaii.
  • Other requirements as specified in the Minimum Qualification Requirements.
