Summary
You will serve as a INSTRUMENT MECHANIC in the JBPHH UTILITIES DIVISION of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII.
Duties- Maintain parts, materials, tools, and equipment at prescribed levels for instrument work.
- Calibrate and maintain cleanliness of test instruments used in wastewater systems.
- Inspect, test, modify, and calibrate Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) to maintain operational efficiency.
- Repair mechanical, electronic, physical, and electro‑mechanical test devices or instruments used to measure equipment at a wastewater lift station.
- Use shop mathematics (e.g., algebra, geometry, basic physics) relating to electrical and electronic functions to accomplish initial operational checks and the calibration and final testing of instruments and equipment.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasize quality of experience, not necessarily length of time.

The screen‑out element for this position is ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION:
1) Must have experience and knowledge with maintaining mechanical and electrical systems.
2) Must have experience with troubleshooting electrical systems.
3) Must possess basic knowledge of electrical systems. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey‑level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre‑employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments. Selectee occasionally lifts and carries weights up to 50 lbs. Work involves standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching for continuous periods.
Work occasionally involves fumes and unpleasant odors (e.g., cleaning solvents and preservative sprays). Also experience intermittent exposure to common electrical/mechanical industrial hazards. Occasionally works in confined dark spaces. Employee may be required to work overtime, is subject to emergency recall seven days a week and is subject to shift work. Selectee may be required to perform off‑station and off‑Oahu “on‑site” work assignments.
These assignments may involve working in hazardous duty areas and irregular hours. Temporary duty assignments will involve travel by commercial or military aircraft and surface craft for training and development purposes. Occasionally assigned duties will require selectee to enter into and work inside confined spaces. Selectee will be required to receive a pre‑placement physical examination based upon the type of work performed and hazards to be encountered, an annual examination based on the potential of these hazards, and a termination examination upon termination of employment or reassignment to other duties.
