Marine Mechanic/Welder
Join HII's Mission Technologies division as a Marine Welder/Mechanic to serve on our SEMAT Hawaii team located in Pearl Harbor, HI. This Marine Welder/Mechanic will be responsible for performing welding and mechanical maintenance and training to assist shipboard personnel in the operation, maintenance, and repair of specific items of engineering systems/equipment onboard USN Surface Ships.
What You Will Do:
- Perform welding and mechanical maintenance and training to assist shipboard personnel in the operation, maintenance, and repair of specific items of engineering systems/equipment onboard USN Surface Ships.
- Master understanding of production and processes.
- Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors, and ability to provide work direction to others.
- May manage one or more multiple jobs.
- Completes comprehension of specialty trades functions and tools.
- Performs a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.
- Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports, and task or trip reports.
- Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management.
- May perform quality inspections on finished products.
- Performs duties outside of specialty to completion installation or work assignments.
What You Must Have:
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise.
- Must have experience as a Shipboard Marine Welder (MIG and Brazing) and mechanical trades specialty with 8 or more years of shipboard maintenance and repair experience.
- Must be able to read and interpret equipment and systems, ship drawings and ship technical documents and manuals.
- Must be competent in the use of mechanical equipment and tools in corrective repairs efforts to accomplish ship repairs.
- Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- Must be physically able to climb and work on ships in an industrial environment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD Confidential security clearance.
Preferred Requirements:
- MIG, TIG, ARC Welder and Brazing Certifications.
- Recent Marine Welder/Mechanic shipboard experience on USN ships.
- A current, valid DOD Confidential security clearance or higher.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
- Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
- Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
- May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
- May require wearing a respirator.
- Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
