About Lydia House
Lydia House (LH), LLC from Lili’uokalani Trust, is directly overseen by the LT Board of Trustees, acting as Board of Directors. LH serves opportunity youth, ages 16 to 26, experiencing high risk factors and involvement in systems of care. The Center supports opportunity youth through low barrier access to basic needs services with a youth-centered approach. Lydia House aims to meet basic needs, stabilization, and support youth who choose to move towards thriving.
The Center strongly roots its work in Hawaiian values and healing centered approach, with heightened focus elevating the strengths and innate values of all youth, regardless of past experiences and present environment. The Center operates through its drop‑in hours meeting all basic needs. Lydia House provides an opportunity for intensive case management. Lydia House’s Huliau Program supports re‑entry education and workforce, including opportunity for financial and housing support.
Lydia House maintains 38 beds in 15 units, to provide housing stability to qualified youth (18 to 22) to reach youth’s goal plan.
The Huliau Youth Engagement Specialist (HYES) must follow a strength‑based approach to help youth develop independent and transitional living skills. This method encourages positive reinforcement and offers non‑judgmental feedback when youth seek support with decision‑making or problem‑solving. If young people experience natural consequences from their actions or choices, the specialist will assist them in resolving issues using non‑punitive strategies. HYES supports beneficiaries under the guidance of the Huliau Program Manager and Leadership Team.
Lydia House assists opportunity youth facing challenges such as houselessness, substance use, mental health issues, criminal involvement, and relationship conflicts. HYES may work independently with youth both individually and in groups, monitoring for crises or conflicts. The Huliau Youth Engagement Specialist helps create a safe, welcoming environment in on‑site living programs, encourages building pilina (relationships), and mentors young adults. This role also addresses social‑emotional needs, manages conflicts, and ensures adherence to guidelines through activities and guidance.
