Salary: $3,266 to $4,139 per month (SR-08, Steps C - I) – Level I; $3,471 to $4,388 per month (SR-10, Steps C - I) – Level II. Hiring rates are based on fund availability, applicant qualifications, and other factors.
Work Schedule: Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Duties SummaryThe Visitor Information Program Assistant I greets, welcomes, and assists travelers with information on hotels, accommodations, ground and air transportation, tourist attractions, and activities. The Assistant also disseminates maps, brochures, and periodicals at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
The Visitor Information Program Assistant II additionally provides interpreter services in a designated language in addition to English, as required. This includes speaking a designated language and interacting with travelers and others, in addition to all duties of the lower level.
Minimum Qualification RequirementsBasic Experience Requirement: Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions, and a high degree of verbal skill. This may be met by part‑time or unpaid work on a continuous basis, or by possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
General
Experience:
One (1) year of work experience demonstrating patience, tact, and an even temper in dealing with others. Preferred experience includes hospitality or customer service catering to the traveling public.
Special Language Requirement for Assistant II: Ability to speak fluently one of the following languages in addition to English:
Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Tagalog, Hawaiian, Samoan, Spanish, French.
Substitutions Allowed: Successful completion of accredited college coursework may substitute for General Experience, providing fifteen (15) semester credit hours of coursework for six (6) months of General Experience. Coursework must include at least three (3) semester credit hours in psychology, sociology, social work, or another behavioral science.
Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Clearance – Criminal History CheckApplicants must not have been convicted, or found not guilty by reason of insanity, of a disqualifying offense within ten years. A pre‑employment fingerprint‑based criminal history record check is required for access to secured areas at the airport.
