Duties SummaryPositions in this class perform critical investigative work to identify and confirm reports of alleged child/dependent adult abuse/neglect and develop primary treatment plans. Work is frequently crisis‑oriented and confrontational, may involve challenging family members or other persons directly in their treatment of children and dependent adults, and performing assessments of situations where children or dependent adults may be immediately removed, using police assistance as necessary.
Because of the serious nature of allegations, Child/Adult Protective Services (C/APS) Specialists often encounter volatile situations, especially during on‑site visits where they may encounter hostility from family members.
This recruitment is for positions in the Maui Adult Protective & Community Services (APCS) program. The unit investigates reports of alleged abuse, neglect, and/or financial exploitation of vulnerable adults and intervenes in cases to alleviate crisis situations and protect victims from harm; provides counseling, case management services, and coordination of community services to ensure safety; and provides other community‑based services such as care home placement, case management, and repatriation services.
