Social Worker IV; Public Guardian - Kauai

This is a permanent, part‑time (
20 hours per week
) position. A current and valid driver's license is required to operate a motor vehicle.

• Conduct interviews and assessments to determine client needs.
• Monitor the health, safety and welfare of wards.
• Make decisions regarding care and services.
• Develop and monitor treatment plans.
• Coordinate with case managers, service providers, and community agencies to ensure appropriate support and resources.
• Attend and testify in court proceedings.
• Prepare and submit guardianship reports.
• Provide information, consultation, and referrals regarding guardianship matters.
• Supervise social work interns and volunteers.
• Conduct training and educational outreach on guardianship issues.
• Maintain accurate case documentation and records.
• Handle assignments primarily on Kauai, with possible responsibilities on neighboring islands.

Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree that includes at least twelve semester credit hours in social work, social welfare, criminal justice, human services, counseling, psychology, sociology or related social sciences.

If using education as a substitution for experience, submit a copy of transcripts or diplomas at the time of application. Official transcripts will be requested later.

• Two and one‑half years of progressively responsible professional social work experience involving assessments, treatment plan development, interdisciplinary teamwork, and evaluating client progress.
• Work experience that provided knowledge and abilities comparable to a four‑year degree may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis if of comparable scope, level and quality.
• Experience must demonstrate ability to write clear reports, read complex material, and solve complex problems logically and systematically.

• Providing supportive services to professional social workers or similar professionals in public welfare or family court programs.
• Determining eligibility of applicants for public welfare benefits (e.g., medical assistance, food stamps).
• Providing vocational, educational, psychological, or pastoral counseling.
• Providing occupational or physical therapeutic services.
• Peace Corps or VISTA work that did not require application of professional social work knowledge or performed without competent supervision.
• Relocating clients displaced by urban renewal or similar reasons.
• Trainee level social work experience without competent professional supervision.

• A bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies as Social Worker II or six months of experience.
• A master’s degree in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies as Social Worker III or one and one‑half years of experience.
• A Ph.D. in Social Work or Criminal Justice Administration qualifies as Social Worker IV or two and one‑half years of experience.

Applicants must not have a qualifying history of sexual abuse or related convictions as outlined in the Prison Rape Elimination Act. They may be required to contact detainees in juvenile facilities, lockups, prisons, or community confinement facilities.
