Social Workers and Human Services Professionals in correctional facilities work to improve the overall quality of life of inmates by providing counseling, advocacy, and coordination of services. They develop and implement individualized plans that promote rehabilitation, prevent relapse, and support reintegration. They facilitate access to educational, vocational, and mental health resources, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance accountability and service delivery.
Qualifications- Basic Education
:
Social Worker II requires a bachelor's or master's degree in social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or a doctoral degree accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Human Services Professional II requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited four‑year institution, with at least 12 semester‑credit hours in counseling, criminal justice, human services, psychology, sociology, or related behavioral science courses. - Specialized Experience
:
Social Worker II – no specialized experience required for candidates holding a BSW, MSW, or PhD. Human Services Professional II – six months of progressively responsible professional experience helping individuals and families, with evidence of scope and responsibility comparable to a four‑year degree. - Legal Authorization to Work
:
Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident of the United States, or legally eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. - Drug Screening & Background Check
:
Conditioned employment requires a drug screen and intensive background check at the applicant's expense. - Driver's License
: A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment. - PREA Compliance

Must not have a criminal record or allegations involving sexual abuse or harassment as specified by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003.
