Position: Juvenile Counselor I (Male/DL)

Position

Juvenile Counselor I (Male/DL), SR‑16, Honolulu, Oahu. Immediate temporary/on‑call vacancies.

Work Location

Home Maluhia (shelter) located in Honolulu, Oahu.

Work Schedule and Hours

Rotate shifts, including weekends, nights, holidays, and hours outside normal scheduled work times. Some positions are intermittent on‑call with 0–40 hours per week.

Job Conditions

Responsibilities
  • Perform therapeutic counseling and allied rehabilitative services for juveniles in a non‑secured shelter facility.
  • Interview juveniles to obtain background and other relevant information.
  • Assist in investigation, evaluation, and assessment of the juvenile’s background.
  • Make recommendations on referrals to standard community resources and treatment/rehabilitation.
  • Prepare case records, reports, and other required documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree and at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in a social science.
  • Specialized experience: progressively responsible professional experience involving counseling to individuals and/or families that demonstrates the application of behavioral and social science knowledge (e.g., educational counseling, guidance, vocational rehabilitation, psychological or pastoral counseling, probation or parole services counseling). Education can be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Valid and unexpired driver’s license (required for driving duties).
  • Compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Federal law: no history of sexual abuse or related convictions, civil or administrative adjudications, or substantiated allegations.
  • Must pass an Attitudinal Test administered in Honolulu; the test is not available online or out of state.
