Immediate temporary/on-call vacancies.
Positions are located at Home Maluhia shelter in Honolulu, Oahu. The positions require the employee to be of the same gender (male) as that of the client being served.
Shiftwork and Intermittent Work HoursPositions require work on a rotating shift basis, including weekends, nights, holidays, and outside normally scheduled hours. Some positions are intermittent (on call) with 0–40 hours per week, requiring willingness to work weekends, nights, and holidays.
ResponsibilitiesPerforms therapeutic counseling and allied rehabilitative services of a simple nature in accordance with defined policies and procedures and specific supervisory instructions, for juveniles requiring temporary shelter in a non‑secured facility; interviews juveniles to obtain background and other pertinent information; assists in the investigation, evaluation, and assessment of the juvenile’s background; makes recommendations on referrals to standard community resources and on treatment/rehabilitation;
prepares case records and reports; and performs other duties as required.
Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree which included a minimum of twelve (12) semester credit hours in a social science.
Experience and Other RequirementsExcess work experience as described under Specialized Experience below, or any other responsible administrative, professional or analytical work experience which provided knowledge and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis. Experience must have such scope, level, and quality to assure the possession of comparable knowledge and abilities.
The education or experience background must also demonstrate the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex written material; and solve complex problems logically and systematically.
Specialized Experience (for education substitution)Progressively responsible professional experience involving counseling to individuals and/or their families which demonstrated the application of the knowledge of the behavioral and social sciences. Examples of qualifying experience include educational counseling and/or guidance, vocational rehabilitation, psychological or pastoral counseling, and probation or parole services counseling.
Note:
Applicants who will graduate with a bachelor’s degree with at least 12 semester credits of social science coursework may apply within three months prior to graduation. If selected, we will need an original official transcript indicating the completion of the required coursework and the awarding of the degree.
