Salary: $6,283 to $7,644 per month (SR-25, Step D to Step I). Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Positions in this class serve as unit supervisors with full technical and administrative responsibility over a group of Child/Adult Protective Services Specialists, possibly other professional staff engaged in providing direct protective services work, and non‑professional support staff. Positions are responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the unit in order to meet program and organizational objectives. Positions assign, review, and evaluate the work of subordinate staff;

provide technical guidance, staff training, and development; counsel and discipline/recommend discipline for staff; and perform other related duties as necessary. Positions may assu m stronger authority and control over protective service cases which are in an extreme state of crisis, subject to intense public scrutiny, which may be precedent‑setting, or which are being handled by less experienced staff. Positions may also make recommendations regarding the development and/or revision of program policies and procedures.

• Basic
  
  Education:
  
  A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university which includes a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in courses such as counseling, criminal justice, human services, psychology, social work, social welfare, sociology or other behavioral sciences.
• Specialized
  
  Experience:
  
  One and one‑half years of progressively responsible professional experience involved helping individuals and their families identify problems, cope with conditions, and function effectively within their environments. This may include identifying and evaluating client problems, developing and implementing service or treatment plans, monitoring services, and evaluating progress.
• Protective Services
  
  Experience:
  
  Two years of professional social or human service work primarily involved conducting investigations to identify and confirm cases of child/dependent adult abuse/neglect and implementing primary treatment plans, including termination of parental rights as necessary. Experience must demonstrate knowledge of the abuse/neglect continuum and intervention techniques.
• Supervisory Aptitude: Demonstrated aptitude or potential for supervisory duties through completion of assignments with supervisory responsibilities, training courses in supervision, or favorable appraisals indicating supervisory potential.
