Aloha mai! Mahalo for your interest in Kamehameha Schools. This position supports Oahu preschools, as well as some of our neighbor island preschools, so regular travel (on & off island) is required. While the role functions independently, teamwork and the ability to partner with others is key to success.

Job Summary

Provides behavioral health services to students individually and in groups. Provides crisis intervention services following established protocols. Responsible for supporting overall well‑being of students. Participates on the Student Success Team, coordinating the development and implementation of student support plans for students identified as needing targeted or intensive supports. Communicates with families, including home visits, and helps coordinate receipt of off‑campus extended professional services.

Provides training for staff and families on behavioral health related topics.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assessment: Conducts assessment and provides behavioral health counseling services to students individually and in groups as appropriate. Develops behavioral health counseling goals, monitors progress, and makes referrals as warranted.
  • Monitoring: Monitors and assesses behavior, progress, accountability, health, and safety of students and coordinates with the school counselor to address academic and educational supports.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provides crisis intervention services following established protocols, which may occur after‑hours. Serves as a designated liaison for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • Diagnosis and Treatment: Determines students’ condition(s) based on assessment/evaluation. Provides care within approved scope of services to students who are determined to require additional services. Develops treatment plan tailored to the student’s needs and condition. Identifies and communicates with the student/‘ohana the need for external services. May provide additional therapeutic modalities in which they are trained and as approved by leadership.
  • Communication and Support: Supports overall well‑being of students. Participates on the Student Success Team to coordinate development and implementation of student support plans for students identified as needing targeted or intensive supports. Communicates with and supports families, including home visits; helps with navigation and coordination of receipt of off‑campus professional services; works with off‑campus professionals and students on support plans; consults with administrators, teachers, and counselors to provide school‑based supports;

    teaches classes to students and provides resource to employees on behavioral health related topics; facilitates workshops for parents to enhance social and emotional growth of students.
  • Residential Community (if applicable): Provides 24‑hour immediate crisis/emergency intervention services for boarding students. Consults with dormitory advisors; becomes integrated with the boarding community to support boarding students and dorm advisors. Recommends appropriate placement of boarding students to specific dorms and consults periodically with boarding staff.
  • Travels to neighboring islands to conduct home visits.
Position Requirements
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health, or closely related field that meets DCCA educational requirements for clinical licensure in the State of Hawaii (LMHC, LMFT, LCSW).
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience.
  • Current/valid clinical license in the State of Hawaii (e.g., LMHC, LMFT, or LCSW).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate group counseling activities and teach classes on behavioral health topics.
  • Ability to provide high‑quality behavioral health counseling and to identify need for outside referral.
  • High degree of professionalism and genuine concern for the well‑being of students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organized, good public speaking skills, strong listening skills, and ability to relate well to a variety of people (faculty, staff, students, parents, administrators, external service providers).
