Position:
Social Service Assistant IV in the Office of the Public Guardian/DL.
Location:
Honolulu, Oahu.
The position provides comprehensive intake and ongoing support services to adult wards under guardianship. Responsibilities include conducting investigations of the ward’s residence to locate important personal documents and assets; coordinating with family members, caregivers, and service providers; assisting with applications for public benefits and identification documents; visiting clients to assess living conditions and well‑being; transporting and accompanying wards to medical appointments, court appearances, and other essential activities;
preparing required reports and documentation; purchasing necessary items; exploring community resources; and maintaining accurate client records using designated software.
- High school graduation or equivalent work experience demonstrating the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions and a high degree of verbal skill.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in programs such as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing.
- Training received at an accredited college or university may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis up to a maximum of three (3) years.
- Satisfactory completion of a social service aid and assistant curriculum at an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college resulting in a Certificate of Achievement, Associate of Science, or related degree may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.
The position requires a current and valid driver’s license.
PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Requirements- Applicants must be free from any engagement in sexual abuse or related criminal conduct as specified in 28 CFR 115.17, 115.117, 115.217, and 115.317, and related Hawaii State Judiciary policies.
- Must have no history of engagement or conviction in sexual activity involving detainees, inmates, or residents of confinements as outlined in the PREA guidelines.
